ChatGPT, OpenAI's chatbot, is currently down due to a major ongoing outage that has also impacted the company's API. Users trying to access ChatGPT are met with "something seems to have gone wrong" errors along with a message stating "There was an error generating a response."
According to an incident report on OpenAI's status page, engineering teams are actively investigating the issue. "We've identified an issue resulting in high error rates across the API and ChatGPT, and we are working on remediation," the report stated.
This outage comes just a day after another partial outage on Tuesday that affected both the ChatGPT chatbot and API, causing intermittent errors for several hours. On Monday, OpenAI's Dall-E image generation API also saw elevated error rates throughout most of the day.
Major outages are not new for ChatGPT. Back in May, the chatbot service was completely inaccessible worldwide for multiple hours.
The current outage is especially problematic given OpenAI's announcement earlier this week regarding new features and improvements rolling out. This included the launch of the new GPT-4 Turbo model for developers, offering 128K context size and "fresher knowledge" compared to standard GPT-4.
Other new capabilities mentioned include adding vision, DALL·E 3, and text-to-speech to GPT-4 Turbo. OpenAI also doubled the token per minute rate limits for GPT-4 paying customers to help them scale applications.
